The Workhorse Pits Difference

When we opened our shop we have always said we will not compromise when it comes to carrying offset pits that are guaranteed to perform.  Workhorse pits is certainly one of those pits. You can easily make an argument that they have the greatest value on the planet when it comes to an offset smoker all things considered.  Workhorse pits are made here in the USA out of Cleveland, GA.  Each pit they make is made by hand with incredible attention to detail and craftsmanship.  Workhorse pits uses nothing but 3/8” inch steel to build there smokers which is one thing that separates them from many other pits that utilize 1/4” steel.

Many people take a look at an offset smoker and wonder why they are so expensive many times thinking they can’t be that expensive to build and that they could build there own smoker with similar materials for a fraction of the cost.  While this might be true to a certain extent what many don’t realize is the SCIENCE that has gone into developing and making these smokers.  Workhorse pits have proven to have a heat differential of less than 5 degrees across the entire cook chamber on a consistent basis.  This is something that very few other builders can match and many that do come at price points that are 1-2 thousand dollars more expensive than a comparable Workhorse pit.

Workhorse pits offers 2 different models of offset smokers.  The “1975” is the largest capacity offset they offer featuring a 24" by 48” cook chamber.  This pit can handle four briskets, or eight pork shoulders on the single main cooking grate.  The 1975 weighs in at 900 lbs.  Their other model is the “1969”.  This pit is perfect for the backyard cook with a 19” by 41” cook chamber.  This smoker can handle two to three briskets or 4 to 6 pork shoulders.  The 1969 weighs in at 875 lbs.

One of the most unique features Workhorse pits offers is their “Cowboy Firebox”. This feature allows you to lift the lid over the firebox of this cooker and use this as a wood fired grill.  We don’t mean a pellet fed wood fired grill.  We mean a REAL wood fired grill!!!  All of the Workhorse pits we have in stock come with a cowboy firebox, sliding upper rack and fold down stack.  All of these options are somewhat unique in offset pits but come included on all of our Workhorse pits on the showroom floor.
